Before grooming a dog, it is essential to wash and blow dry the dog to prevent damage to the blade, especially if the dog is very dirty or has severely knotted hair. Regular oiling of the blade sets is crucial, ideally before each grooming session. To oil the blades, apply a few drops of blade oil to the front and sides of the cutter blades, wiping off any excess oil with a soft, dry cloth.

If the blade is not cutting effectively, there may be hair trapped between the upper and lower blades. To address this, remove the blade from the clipper, slide the upper blade to the side without adjusting the tension spring, and clean the blade surfaces with a dry cloth. Apply a drop of clipper oil where the blades meet and in the guide slot of the tension spring.

To clean the blades after shaving, immerse them in clipper oil or blade cleaner while the clipper is running, then dry the blades with a clean cloth once cleaning is complete. It is normal for blades to have hair residue, as they are tested before leaving the factory.
